What is the ranking of Indian players in the FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship?
India’s Koneru Humpy remains joint top in the ongoing FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Reigning champion Hampi displayed a brilliant example of her patience and determination and maintained the lead in the women’s category on the second day (26 December).
Now three rounds of play are left in the women’s category. Hampi China’s Zhu Jin’er Sang is on top with 6.5 points out of maximum 8 points. Behind these two, there are 10 players with 6 points, which also includes India’s Dronavalli Harika.
There was tough competition in the women’s category. India’s two-time world rapid champion Humpy defeated Sara Khadem to take the sole lead with 6 points at the end of the seventh round, while eight players were half a point behind her. A draw against Russia’s Grandmaster Goryachkina Alexandra in the eighth round took the Indian ace’s score to 6.5, while Zhu Xiner joined Hampi in the top spot after defeating India’s Women’s World Cup champion Divya Deshmukh in the last round of the day.

Gukesh-erigaceae also in good condition
India’s star players D Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi are in the competition in the open category. 13 players are participating in the open category, in which after 9 rounds, world champion of classical format Gukesh and Arigasi are in the race for the title with 6.5-6.5 points. The Indian pair is one point behind joint-toppers Vladislav Artemiev and Hans Niemann (both have the same 7.5 points).

After starting with two draws against Grandmasters Anish Giri and Alexey Sarna, Gukesh defeated Spain’s David Anton but lost to Nodirbek Abdusattorov in the next round. Russia’s 27-year-old Grandmaster Artemiev made headlines by defeating World No. 1 and 5-time World Rapid Champion Magnus Carlsen and Arigassi. After Artemiev and Neiman, who are joint leaders, four players – Carlsen, Alexey Sarna, Yagiz Erdogmus and Nodyrbek Abdusattorov are half a point behind them.
