Will BJP and Akali Dal come together despite saying no? Survey is being done secretly

These days there is a question in the politics of Punjab for which leaders of two parties are trying to find its answer. Talk of an alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which ruled Punjab for many years, has become common. While many leaders of BJP and Akali Dal have openly advocated the alliance of both the parties, many leaders are avoiding making public statements keeping in mind the discipline of the party. However, political experts say that by the time of 2027 elections, an alliance between the two parties is certain. Meanwhile, videos are now going viral on social media, in which people are being asked questions about the alliance between Akali Dal and BJP.

Dainik Bhaskar and UNI News Agency have shared a video viral on social media. It is shown in this video that common people in Punjab are getting phone calls and people are being asked questions on the phone regarding the alliance of BJP and Akali Dal. This video is being said to be a survey being conducted on the possibilities of alliance between the two parties. This video, which came after the recent statements of the leaders of both the parties regarding the alliance, has once again started the discussions about the alliance.

questions being asked on phone

It is being claimed in media reports that people in Punjab are getting phone calls to take part in a survey. This survey remains in the headlines in Punjab politics. Two questions are being asked to the people in the video. First, do you want an alliance between Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP? The second question is that if there is an alliance between BJP and Akali Dal in the 2027 assembly elections, then whom will you vote for? People are being given the opportunity to choose different options by pressing 1,2,3 buttons on the phone itself.

Leaders refused the survey

When the leaders of both the parties were contacted after this survey came to light in the media, the leaders of both the parties denied such a survey. Although both the parties may be refusing the survey, many leaders from both sides want an alliance. Senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh has even said that if BJP does not form an alliance with Akali Dal, it will not be able to form the government even in 2032. He had said that by forming an alliance with Akali Dal, BJP will get workers working on the ground and both can form the government together.

BJP is not unanimous

Talking about the alliance between the two parties, apart from Amarinder Singh, Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar has also talked about forming an alliance with Akali Dal. He has said many times in public forums that BJP and Akali Dal should come together. However, there is no unanimity in BJP regarding Akali Dal. Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma is opposing the alliance with Akali Dal. He says that BJP is capable of forming the government on its own. Regarding the survey, he said that no such survey has been conducted by BJP. BJP leader Vineet Joshi said about the survey that we do not need a survey, the votes received in the last elections are only surveys. That’s why our party is not conducting any survey.

Akali Dal’s stand

Akali Dal leaders have also denied such a survey and called it a misleading propaganda by the opposition. However, senior party leader and MP Harsimrat Kaur has hinted towards an alliance. He had put some conditions before BJP. A few days ago, Harsimrat Kaur Badal had said that there can be an alliance between BJP and Akali Dal but for that BJP will have to solve the issues of Punjab.

Akali Dal also knows that if they want to return to power in Punjab then they have no other option but to form an alliance with BJP. Due to the falling graph of Akali Dal in Punjab and internal conflicts among the party leaders, the party is continuously losing the elections. In such a situation, Akali Dal leaders also want that they should get a strong partner. In the last elections, Akali Dal had formed an alliance with Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) but the alliance had no impact on the results. The sequence of defeats of Akali Dal continued.

lived together for almost five decades

Shiromani Akali Dal was the oldest ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP and Akali Dal came together in 1969. At that time Jan Sangh had supported the Akali Dal government from outside. Till 1992, BJP and Akali Dal used to contest elections separately but after the elections they came together. Till 1994, Akali Dal was only a party of Sikhs but after this, doors were opened for people of other religions also. After this, in 1997, BJP and Akali Dal contested elections together. The Akali-BJP alliance was successful in Punjab for many years and the party came to power several times.

The alliance lost power in Punjab in the 2017 assembly elections and in 2020, the 25-year-old alliance broke due to farmer laws. Akali Dal opposed the farmer laws. On 17 December 2020, Harsimrat Kaur Badal resigned from the post of Union Minister in protest against the farmer laws. After this, both the parties fought the assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections separately. Akali Dal tried a new experiment by forming an alliance with Bahujan Samajwadi Party, which failed miserably. Now the demand for an internal alliance is rising in both the parties, but BJP leaders say that only the high command will decide on the alliance.
