Vijay to quit films after ‘Jana Nayagan’, vows to serve fans full-time

Vijay, the actor and politician on Saturday December 27 declared that he has chosen to “forgo films” to “be there” for his supporters who have given him everything even a koattai.

The announcement was made by the superstar during the audio launch ceremony of his last movie Jana Awell which took place in Malaysia.

“When I entered the cinema, I thought I was building a small sand house here. But you all have built me a palace. Fans helped me build a fort… That’s why I’ve decided to stand for them. For the fans who gave up everything for me, I’m giving up cinema itself,” the actor said.

“My fans come to see me in theatres. Now, I will stand up for them for the next 30 to 33 years. They have been very loyal, even when I faced criticism from others. This Vijay will pay back his debt of gratitude,” said the superstar.

Vijay has particularly thanked Malaysian fans and remembered the films he made in the country. “I recall visiting for Kuruvi and Kavalan.”

The audience burst into cheers when he talked about his long time rival and friend Ajith Kumar. “My buddy’s Ajith’s Billa was shot in Malaysia.”

The event dubbed Thalapathy Thiruvizha was a blend of live performances and emotional speeches where the police maintained strict security and enforced a no-politics rule.

The likes of Tippu, Anuradha Sriram and Saindhavi were among the singers who whipped up the atmosphere and their performances of Thalapathy Kacheri and Oru Pere Varalaaru which had already gained popular love were just the start.

Nasser, the veteran actor gave an emotional speech where he expressed his gratitude to Vijay for his son’s recovery and also for the construction of the Nadigar Sangam building.

He quoted Vijay’s Pokkiri dialogue and said that the actor is living by his word, “Oru Thadava Mudivu Pannita”, (once I made up my mind…).

However, he begged Vijay to make an exception this time and reconsider his retirement from films as he is “critic-proof” and the fans and the industry will never find another one like him.
