Train travel becomes expensive from today, know how much it will affect your pocket? ,

Tezzbuzz Desk- From Friday i.e. today, traveling by train has become a bit heavy on the pockets of passengers. The increase in passenger fares announced by the Railway Ministry has come into effect from today. Issuing a notification in this regard on Thursday, the ministry said that for journeys of more than 215 kilometres, ordinary class tickets have been increased by one paise per kilometer and non-air-conditioned classes of mail/express trains and air-conditioned (AC) classes of all trains have been increased by two paise per kilometre.

The Railway Ministry had already announced on December 21 that the revised fares would come into effect from December 26. This is the second time this year that passenger rail fares have been changed. Earlier, the fare was increased in the month of July also.

Justifying its decision, the Railway Ministry said that this change in the fare structure has been done with the aim of ensuring operational sustainability of the Railways while maintaining affordable rates for passengers. According to the ministry, the revised fare has tried to strike a balance between the convenience of passengers and the financial strength of the Railways.

However, the ministry has also clarified that there has been no change in the fares of suburban services and season tickets. The new fare system will be applicable on both suburban and non-suburban routes.

In ordinary non-AC (non-suburban) services, fares for Second Class Ordinary, Sleeper Class Ordinary and First Class Ordinary have been rationalized in a graded manner.

After this increase, passengers traveling long distances will now have to spend a little more, while suburban passengers traveling daily have got relief from this.
