Pink bus service will start in Nalanda from January 1

With the new year, operation of two pink buses will be started in Nalanda district. Only women passengers will be able to travel in these buses. The special thing is that these buses will also be operated by women drivers. The pink bus service will be inaugurated by Transport Minister Shravan Kumar.

Focus on women’s safety and convenience

According to the Transport Department, this service is being started especially keeping in mind the safe and convenient travel of housewives, working women and girl students. In line with the thinking of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, this scheme is being considered an important step towards providing self-reliant and safe transportation facilities to women.

Pink bus is already running in many districts of the state

Before Nalanda, pink bus service has been started in Patna, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga and Purnia. In the first phase, more than 20 pink buses are being operated across the state, while in the second phase, there are plans to run more than 110 pink buses in different districts.

Expansion will happen in a phased manner

The Transport Department said that the Pink Bus service will be implemented in all the districts in a phased manner. In the districts where this service is already running, applications are being taken for appointment of women drivers in DTO offices. Special training is also being given to selected women drivers, so that the operations can run smoothly.

Women drivers and conductors will be deployed

Transport Minister Shravan Kumar has said that deployment of women drivers and women conductors will be ensured in all pink buses of the state by March 2026. For this, special training is being given to women and under this scheme, applications have also been sought from Jeevika Didis.

It is noteworthy that Nitish government had started pink bus service in Bihar this year. Initially, due to shortage of women drivers, male drivers were deployed in some buses, which is now being changed in a phased manner.
