Will VVS Laxman take over as coach of the Test team in place of Gambhir? BCCI Secretary made it clear in his statement
Team India Test Coach: BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has rejected all the reports which claimed that VVS Laxman is likely to be appointed as the new Test coach of the Indian team in place of Gautam Gambhir. Saikia on Sunday said the reports were “completely false and mere speculation” and clarified that the board had taken no such step.

In fact, during the short tenure of head coach Gambhir, the Indian team has been swept in two home Test series. Some media reports had claimed that considering the poor performance of the team, Gambhir could be removed from the post of coach of the Test team. Apart from this, if the performance of the Indian team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is not good, then their contract will be reconsidered. Gambhir’s contract with BCCI is till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
However, BCCI Secretary Saikia has put an end to all the speculations by calling these reports wrong. In an official statement, he said that the reports currently circulating are completely false and based only on speculations. Despite being published by some well-known media outlets, there is no truth in these claims. BCCI clearly denies these and has not taken any such step. “These reports are based on speculation and speculation, are factually incorrect, and are completely baseless.”
Let us tell you that the Indian team has recently faced a crushing defeat of 0-2 in the home Test series against South Africa. Last year also India had lost 0-3 at home to New Zealand. This is the most shameful defeat in the history of Indian Test cricket. Apart from this, news of rift between the coach and senior players also remains in the headlines.
