French actress Brigitte Bardot dies at 91: report
Famous French actress and singer Brigitte Bardot, who was one of the most influential and famous personalities of European cinema, has died at the age of 91. Considered a symbol of glamour, boldness and independence in her time, Bardot not only left a deep mark in the world of film and music, but also did remarkable work for animal rights in the last years of her life.

Brigitte Bardot’s film journey started in the 1950s, but she got international recognition from the 1956 film ‘And God Created Woman’. This film was directed by her then husband Roger Vadim. His outspoken style and confident acting in the film made him a global star overnight. For nearly two decades, she was seen as a sex symbol, which defined her on-screen and off-screen image.
Born in Paris in 1934, Bardot belonged to a traditional Catholic family. She took dance lessons from the Paris Conservatory. At the age of just 15, she appeared on the cover of a magazine, after which she started getting film offers. In his early films, roles like ‘Doctor at Sea’ increased his popularity, but he got his real breakthrough from ‘And God Created Woman’.
Bardot worked in both French and Hollywood cinema in the 1960s. His performances in ‘Viva Maria!’, ‘Shalako’, ‘The Truth’, ‘A Very Private Affair’ and Jean-Luc Godard’s famous film ‘Contempt’ were highly appreciated. He also made his mark in the world of music and recorded the original version of the song ‘Je t’aime… Moi non plus’ with Serge Gainsbourg.
When did you retire from acting?
He retired from acting in 1973 after the film ‘The Edifying and Joyous Story of Collinot’. After this he turned his entire attention towards animal protection and established the Brigitte Bardot Foundation in 1986. From the movement against seal hunting to writing letters on animal rights to world leaders, his activism was seen internationally.
However, due to some of her political and social statements, especially her views on Islamization in France, she remained in controversy and had to face punishment in cases of inciting racial hatred. In his personal life, he married four times and had many famous relationships. She is survived by her son, Nicolas, who was born to her third husband, Jacques Charrière.
