Dhanbad: A serious case of theft of a newborn child has come to light from Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH), the largest government hospital of Koyalanchal. The newborn son of a tribal couple living in Tundi police station area mysteriously disappeared from the hospital ward. As soon as information about the incident was received, there was a stir in the hospital premises, while the family members were crying and pleading to find the child. According to family members, this incident of theft took place in the women’s and maternity department of the hospital. After the disappearance of the child, there was an atmosphere of chaos among the patients and staff present in the ward. The family members were seen continuously demanding answers from the hospital administration.

Mother told the whole incident
Sarita Devi, mother of the newborn, told that she is a resident of Bhelve village of Maniadih police station area of Tundi. She had come to SNMMCH with her husband Shaligram Marandi on December 24, where doctors admitted her to the women’s and maternity department. During treatment she gave birth to a son. Sarita Devi told that last night around 8 o’clock an unknown woman came to her posing as a nurse. The woman asked to examine the child and walked out of the ward with the newborn in her lap. When the child did not return after some time, Sarita became suspicious.

Chased, still did not find the child
Mother Sarita Devi told that she also chased the woman, but she suddenly disappeared somewhere. After this the family started searching for the child in the hospital premises, but for a long time no clue was found. Eventually this information was given to the hospital administration. After the incident, the family accused the hospital administration of serious negligence. He says that if there were strong security arrangements in the hospital, such an incident would not have happened. The family members have demanded the safe recovery of the newborn as soon as possible.

Woman captured in CCTV
As soon as the information about the matter was received, the police of Saraidhela police station reached the spot. Police Inspector Manjeet Singh said that the CCTV cameras installed in the hospital have been examined. In the footage, a woman, wearing a face mask, is clearly visible carrying a newborn child in her lap.
