The foundation stone of Bogibeel Bridge was laid in 1997 by the then Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda. However, its actual construction work began in 2002. This huge project cost about Rs 5,900 crore. Finally, in 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this historic bridge.

The design life of this bridge has been fixed at 120 years. The road built over the bridge is so strong that even a fighter jet can land here in case of an emergency.
