Today, on its foundation day, the Congress Party has announced an alliance with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) in the BMC elections. There are a total of 227 wards in BMC, out of which the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi will contest in 62 wards. This alliance will not be limited to BMC only, but will be applicable in the elections of all the 29 municipal corporations of the state.
This will be the first time when Congress and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi will contest elections together. Earlier, talks had taken place between the two parties during the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, but they were not successful.
Maharashtra Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal said through a press conference that when the name of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi was Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh, Congress was with Ambedkar ji from 1998 to 1999. Now once again both are coming together and both are natural partners. He said that both the parties are based on constitutional ideas. There may have been differences of opinion between Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Babasaheb Ambedkar regarding the Constitution, but there was never any difference of opinion, because the objective of both was the same.
He said that today this alliance is being announced from Mumbai and from today onwards Congress and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi are friendly parties. This alliance is about ideology, in which it is more important to come together in the fight of constitutionalist and Manuwadi ideas, and not who is contesting on how many seats. He also said that this alliance has special significance on the foundation day of Congress.

What did Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi say?
At the same time, Dr. Dhairyawan Pundkar of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi said that if this alliance had happened in 2014, BJP would not have come to power at the Centre. He said that it is better late than never. The Mumbai team of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi has worked hard for this alliance and Prakash Ambedkar has recognized it. He clarified that Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi will contest elections on 62 seats in Mumbai, while talks are still going on regarding the remaining municipal corporations.
