Electronics Manufacturing News: ‘This’ Country Becomes World’s Second Largest Mobile Manufacturer; Electronics production up to 11.3 lakh crores

Electronics Manufacturing News: Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav said that India’s electronics sector has seen unprecedented growth in the last 11 years. He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, saying that electronics production has grown 6-fold and exports 8-fold during this period. According to the minister, electronics production was Rs 1.9 lakh crore in the financial year 2014-15, which is expected to reach Rs 11.3 lakh crore in 2024-25. Similarly, electronics exports increased from Rs 0.38 lakh crore to Rs 3.3 lakh crore.

Under the Product Linked Incentive Scheme, the sector has attracted over Rs 13,475 crore of investment, bringing production to Rs 9.8 lakh crore. It has created an estimated 2.5 million jobs, this growth in electronics manufacturing is a result of Prime Minister Modi’s approach to develop a broader ecosystem. As semiconductor and component production expands, employment opportunities will increase further. Over 1.3 lakh jobs have been created through PLI-LSEM in the last five years, involving global and Indian companies. The minister also said that India has become the second largest mobile phone producer in the world. In 2014-15, there were only two mobile phone manufacturing units in the country, which have now grown to nearly 300.

Make in India has achieved success

The government is now focusing on manufacturing of modules, components, sub-modules and machinery in addition to finished products. 1.15 lakh crore investment proposals have been received under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme, which is expected to generate output of 10.34 lakh crore and 1.42 lakh jobs. Vaishnav said 10 semiconductor units have been sanctioned, of which three units have already started pilot or initial production. He further said that production in India is increasing steadily and exports are also increasing. He concluded that this is the real success of Make in India.
