Delhi: Before the starting ODI series against New Zealand, a relief news has come out for Team India. Star batsman Shreyas Iyer is close to returning to the field once again after recovering from a long-term injury.
Iyer ready to return after recovering from injury
Shreyas Iyer is away from cricket since 25th October. He suffered a serious injury in the third and last ODI match played against Australia, due to which he was ruled out indefinitely. Now after successful rehabilitation at BCCI’s Center of Excellence, he is considered ready to make a comeback.
Got seriously injured while taking a catch
This injury occurred when Iyer was trying to take a catch near the third man boundary. While running backwards, he lost his balance and fell on the ground on his ribs. Although he completed the catch, he was seen writhing in pain and was immediately taken off the field. Later medical examination confirmed internal bleeding.
Vijay Hazare Trophy may make a comeback
According to media reports, 30-year-old Iyer can make a comeback to competitive cricket through Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. It is expected that he will be a part of the Mumbai team led by Shardul Thakur. This tournament can prove to be an important platform for them to gain match fitness and rhythm.
Hopes increased for India-New Zealand series
If Iyer passes the final fitness test, he may be eligible for selection for the first match of the India-New Zealand ODI series starting on January 11. Due to injury, he could not participate in the bilateral series against South Africa and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
