India had called the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh ‘unacceptable’

This reaction has come at a time when two days ago India had termed the attacks on Hindus by fundamentalist elements in Bangladesh as ‘unacceptable’. India had said it is seriously concerned about the ongoing violence against minority communities, including Hindus, Christians and Buddhists, and expects the Bangladesh government to ensure their safety.

India strongly condemned the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das

India particularly strongly condemned the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a 27-year-old Hindu garment worker in Mymensingh on 18 December. Apart from this, the murder of another Hindu person in Rajbari district was also mentioned. India had claimed that according to independent sources, thousands of violent incidents have taken place against minorities in recent months, including cases of murder, arson and land grabbing.

Countering these allegations, Bangladesh said that some criminal incidents are being deliberately presented as widespread oppression to create an atmosphere against Bangladesh, its citizens and its diplomatic missions in India.

‘The dead man was a criminal’

Regarding the Rajbari case, Dhaka clarified that the deceased person was a listed criminal, who died allegedly during an attempt to extort money. A Muslim accused has also been arrested in this incident. The Foreign Ministry said that linking this matter to minority oppression is misleading and factless.

Lastly, Bangladesh appealed to all concerned parties in India to desist from spreading such alleged misleading narratives as it may damage the neighborly relations and mutual trust between the two countries.
