’20 wickets on the first day…’ Matt Page’s shocking statement on Melbourne Test
Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) chief pitch curator Matt Page has expressed his disappointment over the Boxing Day Test ending in two days. Speaking to reporters outside the ground on Sunday, Page said that he was shocked to see that the Test match ended so quickly. He told that the team faced many challenges while preparing the pitch, but the result was contrary to expectations.
What did Matt Page say?
Matt Page said that we are extremely disappointed. This experience will teach us and we will prepare better pitches in the future. I was surprised to see what happened on the first day. Falling 20 wickets in a single day has never happened before in my career. Hopefully such an experience will not happen again in the future.
He also told that watching everything happening during the match was like riding a rollercoaster. However, he expressed confidence that this experience will make his team stronger and better. We have faced challenges before and this time too we will learn from them and move ahead. I am fully confident that we will return more capable.
Chief Stuart Fox expressed disappointment
Melbourne Cricket Club Chief Stuart Fox also expressed disappointment over the poor quality of the pitch and said that it was completely in favor of the bowlers, while the conditions were difficult for the batsmen. Fox praised the efforts of Page and his team and said that despite the pitch problems, we are with Matt Page and his team. Eight years ago we called him because he is one of the best curators in the country. He and his team have worked hard to improve it. Matt’s disappointment is a sign of his responsibility and as a leader it is my duty to support him.
England won this test in less than 32 hours. Both teams lost 36 wickets for 572 runs and England won the match by four wickets. No player scored a half-century in the match, which was the first time this happened in Australia since 1932. Due to the Test ending in two days, Cricket Australia had to suffer a financial loss of approximately Rs 96 crore.
