Read Entertainment Desk: Actress Shilpa Shetty had approached the Bombay High Court after the alleged misuse of her pictures. The court gave him interim relief in the personality rights suit. Bombay High Court condemned the use of morphed pictures of actress Shilpa Shetty.
A vacation bench of the Bombay High Court headed by Justice Advaita M Sethna ordered various social media pages, AI-related defendants and other concerned entities to immediately remove or disable the posts along with links and URLs leading to the morphed pictures and videos of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty.
The court said that the dissemination of such content is “prima facie extremely disturbing and at the very least disgusting”. Justice Advaita M Sethna made it clear that the personality rights issues under which Shetty has sued the platform under intellectual property laws will be heard by a regular bench.
While passing the interim order, the vacation bench also said, “No person, especially a woman, can be portrayed in a manner that affects her fundamental right to privacy and that too without her knowledge and/or consent.”
Considering that Shilpa Shetty is a public figure, who has crores of followers on social media. The court stressed that the circulation of misused photographs is an insult to the dignity of the actress, hence all such content should be removed with immediate effect.
Advocate Sana Raees Khan, representing Shilpa Shetty, said that her client’s photographs are being used to promote business and sell sarees without her consent.
Deepfakes and morphed content have become a big issue in Bollywood, with many actors and celebrities becoming victims of the increasing misuse of AI. Apart from her complaint, Shilpa Shetty has also sought damages of ₹5 lakh against certain related parties along with mandatory removal of all the morphed content, which the judge has ordered can no longer be aired.
