What is Dulhasti Stage-2 project?, Modi government gave another blow to Pakistan by giving approval, Modi government approval of the Dulhasti Stage Two project on the Chenab River is another setback for Pakistan
New Delhi. After postponing the Indus Water Agreement, Modi government has given another blow to Pakistan. The Environment Ministry has approved the Dulhasti Stage-2 project to be built on the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir. Dulhasti Stage-2 project will be completed by spending Rs 3200 crore. According to news agency PTI, under the Dulhasti Stage-2 project, 260 MW electricity is to be generated by building a dam on the Chenab River. Before this, the Government of India is rapidly carrying out work on many projects in Jammu and Kashmir including Savalkote, Bursar, Ratle, Pakal Dul, Kwar, Kiru. Once the Dulhasti Stage-2 project is built, Chenab water will be utilized effectively in India along with power generation.

Earlier, the dam generating 390 MW power under Dulhasti Stage-1 was started in the year 2007. This project is working very well. Under Dulhasti Stage-2, water from Stage-1 will be sent through a separate tunnel 3685 meters long. Horse shoe type dam is to be built in Dulhasti Stage-2. The project will have two power generation units of 130 MW each. Dulhasti Stage-2 project is to be set up in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. By building another dam on Chenab, water can also be supplied to different areas for irrigation. Pakistan may shed tears once again if the project gets environmental clearance from the Modi government.

India had suspended the Indus Water Agreement signed with Pakistan in 1960 after the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April 2025. India now opens and closes the dams of Jammu and Kashmir as per its wish. Pakistan has been continuously saying that if the Indus Water Treaty is not reinstated, it will be taken as a declaration of war. Despite this hooliganism of Pakistan, the Modi government has made it clear that talks will be held with Pakistan on Indus Water Treaty only after cross-border terrorism is completely ended. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also said that the water of the rivers going from Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan will be sent through a canal for irrigation to the farmers of Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana. This work is expected to take three-four years.
