Kamindu Mendis ‘sets internet on fire’ with mid over arm switch in IPL 2025

A mind-bending display of skill has “set the internet on fire” after Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis showcased his rare ability to switch bowling arms mid-over during the 2025 IPL season.

Representing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their Kolkata Knight Riders, the 26-year-old left batters and fans questioning the laws of physics.

In a viral sequence from the match, Mendis began his over bowling traditional left-arm orthodox spin to a right-handed batter. However, as the strike rotated, he smoothly switched to right-arm off-spin, leaving the opposition visibly rattled.

The official IPL social media handle quickly posted the footage with the caption: “Confused? That’s what Kamindu Mendis causes in the minds of batters.”

While the move looked like a magic trick, it is perfectly legal under ICC rules

While the move looked like a magic trick, it is perfectly legal under ICC rules, provided the umpire is notified. Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their shock with one popular post reading:

“Left to Right. Right to Left. Is this even allowed?”

Mendis proved the tactic is more than just a gimmick by dismissing KKR’s half-centurion Angkrish Raghuvanshi during his spell.

Commentators marvelled at the feat, noting that while others have tried, Mendis is the “fastest Asian” to reach 1,000 Test runs, proving his elite status.

As one analyst put it, “Kamindu the Ambidextrous” is officially cricket’s most unpredictable weapon.
