IPL Auction: Who is UP’s Prashant Veer, for whom CSK spent ₹14.2 crore?
A record-breaking bid has been made on Uttar Pradesh’s Prashant Veer in the auction being held for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. This young all-rounder has been bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 14 crore 20 lakh. Prashant Veer has become the most expensive uncapped player in IPL history. Earlier this record was in the name of Avesh Khan, who was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 10 crore in the IPL 2022 auction.
Prashant Veer has gone far ahead of him. CSK already had their eyes on 21 year old Prashant. He was recently called for trials at CSK Academy in Chennai. The franchise won a bidding war from Sunrisers Hyderabad to include him in their squad as a replacement for Ravindra Jadeja. Left arm spinner Prashant has taken 12 wickets in 9 T20 matches. Also, he has scored 112 runs at a strike rate of 167.16. Prashant had caught people’s attention with his tremendous all-round game in the UP T20 League.

CSK won the bidding war from SRH
As soon as Prashant Veer’s name came up in the auction, heavy bidding started. CSK entered the bidding war and within no time Prashant’s price crossed Rs 5 crore. Initially there was a clash between Rajasthan Royals and CSK. Later Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) jumped in and their bidding war with CSK went on till Rs 14 crore. In the end CSK won this bet and included this emerging player in their squad.

Who is Prashant Veer?
Prashant Veer plays for Noida Super Kings in the UP T20 League. 21 year old Prashant is adept at hitting big hits and also bowling economically. In the 9 T20 matches played so far, he has given runs at an economy of 6.45. He was seen playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy recently, where he took 9 wickets in 7 matches. Prashant also played unbeaten innings of 37, 22 and 40 runs with the bat. Prashant made his first class debut in this Ranji season. He has taken 2 wickets in 2 first class matches.
