These special changes were seen in the fields of Punjab due to the historic initiative of Mann government.
In Punjab, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, positive changes have been seen in the agriculture sector in the year 2025. Government initiatives, such as record sugarcane prices, promotion of crop diversification and adoption of sustainable farming practices, are ensuring both profits for farmers and environmental sustainability.
What did Gurmeet Singh Khuddiyan say?
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian said that the increase in the price of sugarcane this year was done with the aim of honoring the hard work of the farmers and ensuring their economic security. This year, the State Agreed Price of sugarcane in the state was fixed at Rs 416 per quintal, which is Rs 15 more than last year and is one of the highest prices in the country.
Due to the efforts of the government, there has been a 53 percent reduction in the incidents of stubble burning in the Kharif season. Only 5,114 cases of stubble burning were reported in the year 2025, whereas in 2024 this number was 10,909. Farmers are also being given subsidy on crop residue management machines. So far 1.58 lakh machines have been made available. More than 16,000 approval letters were issued this year.
To promote crop diversity, the area under cotton cultivation increased by 20 percent, reaching 1.19 lakh hectares. BT to farmers 33 percent subsidy is being given on cotton seeds and more than 52,000 farmers have availed the benefit by registering online. Direct sowing of paddy (DSR) technique helped in underground water conservation and an increase of 17 percent was recorded in this area.
Increase in Basmati cultivation
There has also been an increase in the cultivation of Basmati, which reached 6.90 lakh hectares, making it a profitable option for farmers. For crop diversification, pilot projects were started in six districts, in which Kharif maize was cultivated instead of paddy. Under this scheme, farmers were given Rs 17,500 per hectare and other assistance, and subsidy on seeds was also provided.
The Agriculture Minister said that these initiatives have helped in empowering farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture. Record price of sugarcane, D.S.R. Schemes like technology, subsidy on cotton seeds and crop diversification have proved to be a milestone for Punjab’s agriculture in 2025. The government will also emphasize on innovative and environment-friendly agricultural practices in the year 2026.
