Trump made friends with Putin, called before the meeting with Zelensky, said this big thing
Trump-Putin Talks: US President Donald Trump speaks by telephone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 28, 2025. He himself gave this information on his social media platform Truth Social. Trump described his conversation with Putin as very positive and productive. The US President made this call at a time when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is on a visit to America.
Trump said, ‘Today, December 28, 2025, at 1 pm, I am going to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Florida, but before that I had a very nice telephone conversation with Russian President Putin. The meeting will take place in the main dining room of Mar-a-Lago in Florida and the press is also invited.”
Efforts to agree on a peace agreement
This conversation was taking place with the aim of taking a step towards resolving the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. However, many complex and sensitive issues still remain between Russia and Ukraine. Russia continues to maintain military pressure on Kiev, and the meeting was an attempt to promote further dialogue between the leaders of the two countries.
Just a day before this, on December 27, Russia attacked Ukraine’s capital Kiev and other areas through missiles and drones. Due to this attack, electricity and heating supply in Kiev was affected. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky saw the attacks as Russia’s response to US-led peacekeeping efforts. He also said that Russia is using force to strengthen its position during the talks.

Russia angry at Europe
Ahead of Trump and Zelensky’s meeting, Russia launched a tough attack on Europe. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov described the European Union (EU) as the biggest obstacle in the path of peace. He said that while Russia and America are talking for a solution, European countries are only promoting war. Lavrov warned that this attitude of Europe could prove dangerous for the stability of not only Ukraine, but the entire continent.
