digital desk- Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday chaired an important meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters at Indira Bhawan in New Delhi. The top leadership of the party participated in this meeting and discussed the current political situation of the country, organizational issues and upcoming strategy. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi and many senior leaders were present in the meeting. The most talked about thing in this meeting was the presence of Shashi Tharoor. After a long time, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor attended the CWC meeting. The special thing was that he was seen running near the Congress headquarters. He reached the meeting running and during this he also greeted the media. Tharoor was seen smiling, which made it clear that efforts were being made to create a positive atmosphere within the party regarding his return.
Eyes on Shashi Tharoor’s return
It is noteworthy that Shashi Tharoor was keeping distance from important meetings of Congress for the last several months. Not only did he not participate in the last two Congress Working Committee meetings, he was also not seen in the party meetings held during the winter session of Parliament. Tharoor was also absent in an important meeting of Congress held on 18 November. Apart from this, citing his busy schedule abroad, he also did not participate in Congress’ ‘Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod’ rally held at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. Not only this, Shashi Tharoor was seen several times in recent months giving statements different from the official line of the party, due to which discussions of uneasiness within the Congress had intensified. However, for the last few days, he has openly attacked the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government. In such a situation, his presence in the CWC meeting is being considered an important sign towards dialogue and unity within the party.
presence of senior leaders
Many big leaders including Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, senior leader Harish Rawat, former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, MP Rajiv Shukla and senior advocate and MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi attended the meeting. It is believed that in this meeting, discussions were held on strengthening the organization, upcoming election strategy and sharpening the political issues against the central government.
DK Shivkumar did not get invitation
Meanwhile, another thing in discussion was that Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar was not invited to this CWC meeting. Earlier, DK Shivakumar himself had said that he was aware that two-three Chief Ministers had been called for the meeting, but the Deputy Chief Ministers were not invited. After his statement, questions have also started being raised regarding invitation to meetings within the party.
