Major train accident in Andhra Pradesh, massive fire in Tata-Ernakulam Express, one passenger died, 158 evacuated safely

Andhra Pradesh: A major train accident occurred in the early hours of Monday (29 December) in Anakapalle district of Andhra Pradesh. A sudden fire broke out in the Tata-Ernakulam Express (train number 18189), in which a 70-year-old passenger burnt to death. This train was going from Tatanagar (Jamshedpur) to Ernakulam in Kerala. The incident occurred around 1:30 am, when the train crossed Duvvada station and reached near Yalamanchili railway station.

A major accident was averted due to the wisdom of the loco pilot

According to the information received, the loco pilot saw flames rising from a coach of the train and immediately stopped the train at Yalamanchili station showing alertness. The fire broke out in B1 coach, which spread rapidly. According to initial information, M1 and B2 coaches also got completely burnt in the fire. Seeing the danger, the railway employees immediately separated the remaining coaches from the train, due to which a major accident was averted.

There was chaos at the scene

As soon as the train stopped, there was chaos among the passengers. Many passengers woke up from their sleep and ran out of the coaches to save their lives. Four fire engines reached the spot and brought the fire under control after a lot of effort. During this time, 82 passengers in one coach and 76 passengers in the other coach, a total of 158 passengers, were evacuated safely.

Passengers told that as soon as the fire broke out, there were screams everywhere. Although their lives were saved, the luggage of many passengers was burnt to ashes in the fire. Railway officials have started investigating the cause of the fire.

Ministers and officials took stock of the situation

State Home Minister V. Anita took stock of the incident site and directed the officials to immediately speed up relief and rescue operations. Anakapalle SP Tuhin Sinha said that all the passengers have been evacuated safely, although the life of an elderly passenger could not be saved.
