Raipur. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted large-scale raids on Monday in connection with the alleged scam in the Centre’s Bharatmala Project. According to the information, ED conducted raids in Raipur and Mahasamund of Chhattisgarh. The investigating agency raided nine locations linked to Harmeet Khanuja in Chhattisgarh capital Raipur and Jasbir Singh Bagga and others in Mahasamund in connection with the Bharatmala Project scam. There is an allegation of a scam in the Raipur-Vishakhapatnam Economic Corridor under the Bharatmala Project. There are allegations of alleged irregularities in giving compensation at the time of land acquisition in this project.

According to the information, Harmeet Khanuja, whose premises were raided by ED in the morning in Raipur, has land dealings. The ED is also investigating people whose lands were acquired for the Raipur-Vishakhapatnam Economic Corridor of the Bharatmala Project. At the same time, in Mahasamund, at around 6 am in the morning, ED officers formed two teams and reached Megh Basant area. This is where businessman Jasbir Singh Bagga resides. The ED team has conducted this raid under the protection of central forces. The agency wants to know what caused the difference between the actual value of the land and the amount given as compensation. The ED is expected to issue an official statement regarding these raids later.

In the Bharatmala Project, along with building a new national highway, the work of widening the old roads and expressways is also done. The objective of Bharatmala project is to connect big cities, ports etc. According to the information, there was a big mistake in giving compensation for the land for Raipur-Vishakhapatnam Economic Corridor. At some places there is an allegation of paying less and at other times more amount for the land. Questions have been raised about this route of Bharatmala Project for a long time.
