Shan Masood breaks Inzamam’s record in style: A statement knock

Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood etched his name into the record books by smashing the fastest double century by a Pakistani in first-class cricket, reaching the landmark in just 177 balls and surpassing a three-decade-old record held by Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Masood achieved the feat while representing Sui Northern Gas against Sahar Associates on the opening day of the President’s Cup departmental tournament. He went past Inzamam’s long-standing record of a 200 off 188 balls, set during a tour match in England back in 1992.

The left-hander remained unbeaten on a blistering 212 off 185 deliveries at stumps on day one, dominating the bowling attack with an aggressive display.

The overall record for the fastest double hundred by a visiting batter on Pakistani soil remains with India’s Virender Sehwag, who reached the milestone in 182 balls during the Lahore Test in 2006.

Now 36, Masood has recently declined an offer from the Pakistan Cricket Board to take up a full-time role as Director of International Cricket and Players Relations, choosing instead to focus on his playing career and Pakistan’s World Test Championship campaign.

Earlier this year, the PCB had appointed Masood as a consultant in the same department and later approached him to accept the role on a permanent basis, a move that would have required him to cut short his playing career.
