Globe Soccer Awards 2025: What is the ‘Best Comeback’ Award? Explained

At the 16th annual Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on December 28, football’s elite gathered to celebrate the standout performers and stories of the year, and one of the most emotional moments of the night came with the presentation of the Best Comeback Award.

The “Best Comeback” accolade is a special recognition given to a player who has overcome significant adversity, whether through injury, suspension, or career setbacks, and successfully returned to professional football. Unlike traditional performance-based honours such as Best Player or Best Forward, this award celebrates resilience, determination, and the journey back to the pitch.

In 2025, the award was presented to Paul Pogba, the French midfield star now with AS Monaco, in what was one of the ceremony’s most heartfelt moments. Pogba’s road back to competitive football was far from straightforward.

After being sidelined for nearly two years due to a suspension related to a doping case, his ban was reduced following appeals, allowing him to resume playing in late 2025. His return to action after such an extended absence earned him wide respect and ultimately the Best Comeback recognition at the awards gala.
