Sharif Usman Hadi murder case: Inquilab Mancho’s 24 day ultimatum, NCP comes into Jamaat alliance
**Sharif Osman bin Hadi**, who was the founder and spokesperson of Inquilab Mancho – a platform that was prominent in the 2024 July uprising that ousted Sheikh Hasina from power – was shot dead in Dhaka on December 12, 2025, a day after the Election Commission announced the election on **February 12, 2026**. He was airlifted to Singapore, where he died on 18 December, sparking protests and violence across the country.
On December 28, Inquilab Mancho gave a **24-day ultimatum** to the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government to complete the trial of all those involved, including masterminds and associates. Member Secretary **Abdullah Al Jaber** made the announcement during the Shahbag blockade, which is part of the ongoing strike in major cities demanding justice.
Dhaka police claimed that the two main suspects fled to Meghalaya, India, via the Haluaghat border; Indian BSF and Meghalaya officials rejected this claim as baseless.
Separately, the student-led **National Citizen Party (NCP)**, which was formed by the coordinators of the July uprising, on December 28 joined the **Jamaat-e-Islami-led electoral alliance** for the February elections. Convener **Nahid Islam** described it as a strategic, non-ideological seat-sharing agreement for broader unity after Hadi’s assassination.
The move led to internal turmoil: ~30 leaders protested against the Jamaat, citing its role in the 1971 liberation war, leading to the resignation of two senior leaders. **Mahfooz Alam**, a key figure associated with the rebellion, distanced himself from it through Facebook.
Bangladesh is heading towards elections amid heightened political tension.
