Sharad Pawar-Ajit Dada come together, now they will fight against BJP in Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal elections.
Mumbai Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has made a big announcement regarding the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) elections on Sunday. He said that his Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the NCP faction led by uncle Sharadchandra Pawar will contest the elections together. He called it the reuniting of the family. Ajit Pawar had come to Pimpri-Chinchwad to campaign for the elections to be held on January 15.

Addressing party workers, he said that ‘Ghari’ (the election symbol of NCP) and ‘Tutari’ (the symbol of NCP-SP) have come together for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation elections. The family is united again. Now the direct competition of this alliance is the BJP led alliance. BJP has sidelined NCP in many municipal corporations. Even in BMC, BJP has kept NCP out of its alliance.
This announcement was made after the discussions that took place during the finalization of the list of candidates. Ajit Pawar appealed to the workers to work hard and avoid controversial statements in rallies. He said that we are people of development. We will show the way out to those people who tried to drown this Municipal Corporation in debt. He described NCP’s contribution in the development of Pimpri-Chinchwad and mentioned Hinjewadi IT Park.
Possibility of alliance with other municipal corporations
Meanwhile, alliance talks are also going on between the two groups for the Pune Municipal Corporation elections. This indicates that the agreement reached in Pimpri-Chinchwad may extend to other major municipal corporations. Elections for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra will be held on January 15, while counting of votes will take place the next day. The last date for filing nomination is December 30.

Let us tell you that this alliance, the coming together of both the factions for the first time after the split of NCP in 2023, is a big sign in the politics of Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar broke away from Sharad Pawar in 2023 and joined the Mahayuti alliance with BJP and Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena. At that time he had raised questions on the party leadership citing his uncle’s age. Sharad Pawar has been the Chief Minister of Maharashtra four times. On the same day, the Pawar family was seen together in Baramati, where industrialist Gautam Adani inaugurated the Sharadchandra Pawar Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence. This local alliance is a new twist in Maharashtra politics, where both the groups are in different alliances at the state level. Pimpri-Chinchwad has been a traditional stronghold of the NCP, where the undivided NCP ruled till 2017. Experts believe that this alliance is a strategy to prevent division of votes and present a strong challenge against the BJP.
