Virat-Rohit were not seen in the third round, eyes fixed on New Zealand series –

Tezzbuzz Desk- Cricket fans were shocked on Monday in the third round of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025 when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were not seen on the field for their respective home teams. After playing the first two matches for Delhi and Mumbai, both the veteran batsmen have been rested in the third round.

Actually, the schedule of both the players to play limited matches in this domestic tournament was already fixed. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had to play only two matches each in Vijay Hazare Trophy, which they have completed. In the third round, Delhi is facing Saurashtra at the KSCA Stadium in Alur, while Mumbai is playing against Chhattisgarh at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground in Jaipur. Virat and Rohit are not part of the team in both these matches.

Virat Kohli showed great form for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He played a century in two matches and scored 131 runs, while in the second match he played an important inning of 77 runs. Rohit Sharma started the tournament in a strong manner for Mumbai and played a big inning of 155 runs. However, in the next match against Uttarakhand, he was out without opening the account.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Virat Kohli can play one more match in Vijay Hazare Trophy. It is expected that he will be seen in the Delhi vs Railways match on 6 January. Regarding Rohit Sharma, the report clearly states that he will not play any more matches for Mumbai in this tournament.

Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma can be a part of Team India for the ODI series against New Zealand starting from January 11. In such a situation, it is believed that both the players will soon join the national team camp. The focus of the team management is now more on international responsibilities than domestic tournaments.

In the same report, it has also been claimed that Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya may be rested in the ODI series against New Zealand. This decision can be taken keeping in mind the big challenges of the future, especially the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, both the players are likely to play the T20 series, which is considered to be India’s last T20 International series before the World Cup.
