VIDEO | Richa credits clarity of role, shot selection for late blitz in India’s T20I win vs Sri Lanka
India wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh said clarity about her role and timely shot selection helped her produce a quickfire cameo at the death as India thrashed Sri Lanka by 30 runs in the fourth women’s T20I to take a 4-0 lead in the five-match series on Sunday.
Coming in towards the end, Richa smashed an unbeaten 40 off just 16 balls, laced with four fours and three sixes, as India surged past the 200-run mark after Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma laid a solid foundation with a record partnership.
“Whenever I get the opportunity, the team sends me up the order and I try to score runs and finish the innings,” Richa said after the match. “The ball was coming nicely on to the bat at that time, and shot selection was very important.”
Richa’s late assault, alongside skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, ensured India posted their highest-ever women’s T20I total of 221 for two, which proved too steep for Sri Lanka despite half-centuries from Chamari Athapaththu and a brisk start from Hasini Perera.
The right-hander’s confident approach reflected India’s aggressive batting template throughout the series, as the host continued its dominant run ahead of the fifth and final T20I scheduled on December 30.
