Supreme Court puts a stay on the bail of Kuldeep Singh Sengar, stay on the decision of Delhi High Court
New Delhi. Former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, found guilty in the Unnao rape case, has received a setback from the Supreme Court. The apex court has stayed the Delhi High Court’s decision to suspend Sengar’s life imprisonment and grant him conditional bail.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court—Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice J.K. Maheshwari and Justice Augustine George Masih—heard the case. The Chief Justice said that in view of the special facts of the case and other criminal cases of Sengar, the Delhi High Court order dated December 23, 2025 is being stayed.
The Supreme Court has issued a notice to Kuldeep Sengar and given 1 week’s time to file his reply. Apart from this, petitions filed by advocates Anjali Patel and Pooja Shilpakar will also be heard. The Delhi High Court had on December 23 suspended Sengar’s life sentence, against which the CBI has moved the Supreme Court.
The Unnao rape case has been one of the most sensitive and discussed cases in the country, hence the decision of the apex court is being considered important at the national level. Earlier, the Unnao rape victim and her mother demonstrated at Jantar Mantar on Sunday against the bail granted to Kuldeep Singh Sengar. During this, protesters arrived in large numbers with banners and placards in their hands. The victim’s mother said that she has full faith in the Supreme Court and hopes that she will get justice from there.
