Ben Duckett’s hot beer sled reply to celebrate Ashes win in Melbourne goes viral
On the second day of the fourth Ashes Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on December 27, 2025, England opener **Ben Duckett** created a viral moment with his hilarious response to an Australian fan’s sledging, referring to his earlier off-field brawl.
The fan shouted, “Duckett, you want a beer, buddy?”—a reference to a viral video from Noosa Brac, England, in which Duckett appeared drunk. Duckett, who was fielding on the boundary, gave a thumbs-up, then called the fan over and pretended to drink from an imaginary pint glass, much to the delight of those in the crowd.
The light-hearted exchange showed Duckett’s calm nature despite the ECB investigation into the Noosa incident.
Later, Duckett also did wonders with the bat, scoring **34 runs from 26 balls** (strike rate 130.77) in England’s chase of 175, his highest score in this series. He shared a quick 51-run opening partnership with Zak Crawley to set up a four-wicket win—England’s first win in Australia since 2011, ending an 18-match winless streak and avoiding a whitewash.
During his innings, Duckett passed **3,000 Test runs** in 3,474 balls—the second fastest record in terms of balls (behind teammate Harry Brook).
The two-day Test saw 20 wickets fall on the first day, with England taking advantage of the seaming conditions through aggressive ‘baseball’ batting. Josh Tongue was named Player of the Match for his brilliant performance.
The win was a consolation after Australia had already won the Ashes 3–0.
