Bijapur Forces Foil Maoist Attack, Neutralise 10-kg IED

Security forces in Bijapur thwarted a Maoist attack on Monday morning when they detected and neutralised a 10-kg improvised explosive device (IED) in the Munga-Peddakorma area.

A joint team of the District Reserve Guard, Gangaloor Police personnel, and the Bomb Disposal Squad carried out the operation. During routine demining and area clearance along a footpath near Munga Road, the team spotted a pressure-activated IED buried strategically to target patrols or civilian vehicles. The Bomb Disposal Squad followed strict safety protocols and neutralised the device on-site, thereby preventing a catastrophic incident.

Officials praised the vigilance and coordination of the joint team. They emphasised that the timely detection saved lives and safeguarded ongoing peace-building efforts. The IED weighed 10 kilograms and carried the potential to cause extensive destruction. Maoists continue to employ such tactics to disrupt development and intimidate local communities, but security forces remain alert.

The operation demonstrated the growing success of anti-Maoist campaigns in Chhattisgarh. In recent weeks, security forces recovered explosives and insurgent caches, strengthened forward operating camps, and intensified patrols. Consequently, they dominated areas once controlled by insurgents. These measures facilitated infrastructure development and encouraged tribal communities to reject violence.

Search teams continue to comb the Munga-Peddakorma area to uncover additional traps or hideouts. Authorities believe sustained vigilance will weaken Maoist logistics and morale, paving the way for lasting peace and accelerated development.

This success followed another operation on Sunday in Kandlaparti, where forces neutralised an IED and seized a cache of materials. Together, these actions demonstrated continued pressure on Maoist cadres operating in small, isolated groups.
