Farmers’ roar from North to South: Rakesh Tikait reached Coimbatore, supported the farmers’ movement of Tamil Nadu
Muzaffarnagar/Coimbatore. Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) national spokesperson Chaudhary Rakesh Tikait reached Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu to give a boost to the ongoing agitation regarding the pending demands of the farmers. BKU Uttar Pradesh General Secretary Zaheer Farooqui was also present with him. This visit of Tikait has given a big message of unbreakable unity between the farmer organizations of North and South India.
Grand welcome at the airport-
On reaching Coimbatore airport, prominent farmer leaders of Tamil Nadu—Ramesh Ramaswamy, Unnayan Muttu Swamy and Mohan Rach—warmly welcomed Rakesh Tikait and Zaheer Faruqui with flower garlands. During this time, the enthusiasm of the local farmers was palpable.
‘There is no limit to the farmer’-
While talking to the media, Rakesh Tikait said, “If a farmer sitting in any corner of the country is troubled, then that problem is of the entire farming community of the country. The farmer of Tamil Nadu is not alone, the Bharatiya Kisan Union is standing with him like a rock in his struggle.” He stressed that farmers’ unity is the only force that will force governments to bow down.
Cross-fighting over crop prices and loan waiver-
Tikait clarified that there is a strong need for a permanent agricultural policy to provide remunerative prices (MSP) for crops to farmers, proper irrigation system and complete freedom from debt. He said in a warning tone that until the governments do not fulfill the legitimate demands of the farmers, this movement and struggle will not seem to stop.
Farmer leaders of Tamil Nadu expressed gratitude for the support of Rakesh Tikait, hoping to get new strength to the movement. He said that having the support of such a large and influential farmers organization of North India has given a new energy and strength to his movement. Local leaders expressed hope that this joint struggle will make the central and state governments consider the problems of farmers more seriously. During this visit of Rakesh Tikait, many important meetings of various farmer organizations were held, in which the future strategy was discussed in depth.
