Will Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Tim David be part of Australia’s T20 World Cup team? Coach Andrew McDonald announced the decision

Cummins has played only one international match after suffering a back injury in July this year. He played the Adelaide Test against England, and bowled brilliantly on his return. But after this match, he was out of the entire series because Australia did not want to take any risk on him.

Coach Andrew McDonald said that Australia will include him in the squad of 15 players. Let us tell you that the ICC deadline for announcing the team for the T20 World Cup is January 2. But the decision on his availability will be taken closer to the tournament. Cummins has not played any match in this format after the T20 World Cup in 2024.

McDonald said, “Pat will have a scan, I think after four weeks, so that will give us information about his condition for the World Cup. He will be included in the squad of 15 players.

Hazlewood, who bowled brilliantly in the T20 series against India this year, is expected to be fit for the tournament. Hazlewood is out of the entire Ashes series due to hamstring and Achilles injuries.

“Josh is returning to bowling and looks like he will be OK in the expected timeframe,” McDonald said.

David Do, an important part of Australia’s middle order, suffered a hamstring injury during the Big Bash League match on Boxing Day. It is believed that this is not the same hamstring that he injured in the IPL earlier this year, due to which he was out for two months, but the head coach is confident that he will be fit for the tournament.

“Not sure if it’s just muscle or tendon, and that will give us a timeframe,” McDonald said. “I think that timeframe would be good for TD (Tim David) as well. So whatever the injury is, he should be available.”

Australia has to play its first match in the T20 World Cup on February 11 and there are two opposing teams in the group stage, Ireland and Zimbabwe. The match against Sri Lanka is to be held on 16th February, so David may get more time to get fit.

Let us tell you that Australia will play a series of three T20 International matches in Pakistan at the end of January to prepare for the T20 World Cup.
