LeBron James proved age is just a number on Sunday night as he delivered a stunning highlight just two days before his 41st birthday.
During the Los Angeles Lakers’ dominant 125-101 victory over the Sacramento Kings the legendary forward reminded the world why he remains a force in his 23rd season.
The moment of the night came in the second quarter when James caught a cross-court pass from teammate Luka Doncic. Showing a burst of speed that mirrored his younger self he drove to the baseline and rose for a spectacular double-clutch reverse slam dunk.
The high-flying play immediately went viral on social media as fans marvelled at his longevity.
James finished the game with 24 points on an incredible efficient 11-of-13 shooting performance. Despite a brief scare late in the game involving a collision with DeMar DeRozan he appeared in high spirits afterward.
When asked about his ability to compete at such a high level at nearly 41 years old, James gave a confident assessment of his longevity.
“I’m in a full-on battle with Father Time and I’d like to say I’m kicking his ass,” he said with a smile.
The victory helped the Lakers snap a three-game losing streak and moved them to 20-10 on the season.
As James prepares to turn 41 on Tuesday he continues to set a new blueprint for what is possible in professional sports.
