Financial assistance of Rs 26.06 crore to pregnant women and mothers, target to cover 1.14 lakh women

Chandigarh: The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister of Punjab S Bhagwant Singh Mann, is continuously taking public-friendly steps to ensure women’s welfare and maternal-child health protection. Under this series, Punjab Government has provided financial assistance of Rs 26.06 crore to pregnant women and lactating mothers during the current financial year. This information was given by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur.

Financial assistance of Rs 5 thousand on first child

Giving more information in this regard, Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that the government provides financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to the beneficiary women on the birth of their first child. This amount is provided in two installments, with the first installment being Rs 3,000 and the second installment being Rs 2,000.

Financial assistance of Rs 6000 on birth of a daughter

He told that on the birth of the second child, if the second child is a daughter, a lump sum financial assistance of Rs 6,000 is provided by the government. He said that this entire amount is sent to the accounts of the beneficiary women through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), thereby ensuring transparency and timely assistance.

Till now 69,110 mothers have received financial assistance

Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that so far during the current financial year, financial assistance has been given to 69,110 pregnant and lactating mothers. He said that the Punjab Government has set a target to cover 1.14 lakh beneficiary women under this scheme during the financial year 2025-26.

Punjab government’s efforts

Dr. Baljeet Kaur said that this scheme is not limited to financial assistance only, but is an important step towards strengthening the health of mothers, nutrition and care of newborns. He said that it is the endeavor of the Punjab Government that no mother should be deprived of essential health services due to financial constraints and every child should get a safe and healthy start from birth.

In the end he reiterated that the Mann government is fully committed to the welfare of women and children and extending the benefits of government schemes to every eligible person is the top priority of the government.
