Dehradun: Describing the murder of Tripura student Angel Chakma as a very sad and painful incident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke to his father Tarun Prasad Chakma on phone on Monday (December 29). Expressing deep condolences to the victim’s family, the Chief Minister assured that the culprits will not be spared under any circumstances and they will be given the harshest punishment.
Five arrested so far, one absconding accused feared to flee to Nepal
CM Dhami informed Tarun Chakma that till now five accused have been arrested in this case. At the same time, another accused is suspected to have fled to Nepal. A reward has been announced for the early arrest of the absconding accused and police teams are continuously raiding. The Chief Minister made it clear that there will be no laxity at any level in the investigation.
Chief Minister Dhami said that this incident hurts him personally and he completely understands the pain of the victim’s family. He said that Uttarakhand has been a peaceful and harmonious state, where students from all over the country and abroad come to get education. Such incidents not only harm the image of the state but also shock the society. The government’s priority is to ensure that law and order remains strong and such incidents do not recur in future.
‘Zero tolerance’ on law and order
CM Dhami bluntly said that the government is completely serious about law and order. Strict legal action will be ensured against the culprits so that a clear message of justice is sent. He also said that providing justice is the top priority of the government and every necessary step will be taken to provide justice to Angel Chakma.
The Chief Minister said that after the incident, he had also spoken to Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on phone. Apart from this, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh have also been informed about the matter and necessary cooperation has been discussed. This coordination will help in further expediting investigation and action.
CM Dhami assured Tarun Chakma that the Uttarakhand government stands strongly with the victim’s family. He said that he is also personally in touch with the Tripura government so that the family can get all possible assistance. The state government will also provide legal, administrative and humanitarian help to the victim’s family.
