Police refused to register FIR…Father of student Anjel Chakma killed in Dehradun expressed pain

New Delhi: The death of Tripura student Angel Chakma in a heart-wrenching attack in Dehradun has shocked the entire country. Now serious allegations of the victim’s family have come to light in this case. Anjel’s father Tarun Prasad Chakma, who is serving in the Border Security Force (BSF), said that after the incident, the police had initially refused to register an FIR, calling it a minor case. It was only after pressure and intervention from the family that the police took action, which further increased their pain and suffering.

Delay in FIR increases family’s pain

Speaking to the media from his residence in North Tripura, Tarun Prasad Chakma said that while his son was battling for life in the hospital, the family kept waiting for police action. He said that Angel’s brother wanted to lodge an FIR, but the police initially refused to consider it a serious matter. He said that only when we reached there ourselves, the police filed the report.

The phone call that changed everything

Recalling that fateful night, Tarun Chakma said that he received a call from his younger son late at night. Crying, she informed about the attack on Angel in Dehradun. The father immediately took leave and left for Uttarakhand. The scene he saw when he reached the hospital was unbearable for him. He said emotionally that his son was stabbed twice in the back. His left hand and leg were paralyzed. There was continuous bleeding from the head.

Life could not be saved even after treatment

The condition of Angel Chakma, who was pursuing higher education in Dehradun, remained critical for several days. Despite all efforts, he finally died. After this incident, student organizations and social groups protested in many states including Tripura and demanded strict action against the culprits.

Attack revealed from CCTV footage

According to the father, the police later examined the CCTV footage, in which three youths are seen coming on a motorcycle. They first argued with Angel’s younger brother and then attacked him. When Angel came forward to intervene, the accused stabbed him in the back. Tarun Chakma alleged that even after Anjel fell on the ground, the attackers beat him with kicks and punches and also attacked his neck.

Chief Minister assured justice

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has described this incident as extremely painful and has assured justice to the victim’s family. He said that out of the six accused, five have been arrested and sent to jail and strict action is being taken against the remaining also. The Chief Minister also reiterated that the safety of the students of North-East in Uttarakhand is the priority of the government.

I don’t want this to happen to anyone else

Angel’s father said that his fight is not only for his son, but also to prevent such incidents in future. He said that I do not want any other parent to have to suffer such pain. This case once again raises serious questions on the alleged racial discrimination and violence against students of the North-East. The family demands that there should be no laxity in the case and the culprits should be given the harshest punishment.
