New Zealand got a big shock before the series against India, all-rounder player announced his retirement.
Doug Bracewell Retired From All Forms of Cricket: New Zealand’s brilliant all-rounder Doug Bracewell has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. 35 year old Bracewell has put an end to his cricketing career. Bracewell played his last match for New Zealand in 2023. Bracewell was not included in the team for the T20 series and ODI series to be held in January. After which he announced his retirement.
35-year-old Bracewell played 28 Tests, 21 ODIs and 20 T20 matches during his career from 2011 to 2023. Bracewell retired with a total of 74 Test wickets. In just his third Test match, he helped New Zealand defeat Australia in Hobart, giving a man of the match performance and taking 6-40 in a thrilling last innings to help New Zealand win by seven runs. This was the last time New Zealand defeated their trans-Tasman rivals on Australian soil at Test level.
Bracewell also took 46 wickets for New Zealand in white-ball matches. His last international match was a Test match against Sri Lanka in Wellington in 2023, but a recent rib injury forced Bracewell to end his career with New Zealand’s domestic team Central Districts.

What did Bracewell say after retirement?
“This has been a proud part of my life,” Bracewell said in a statement. This is what I always wanted as a young cricketer. I will always be grateful for the opportunities I have got through cricket and the opportunity to play for my country. And also for the opportunity to play for Central Districts throughout his domestic career.

He said that I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teammates with whom I have played. I would also like to thank the coaches and management who have been with me in this journey and done something for me. Bracewell further said that it is a privilege to play first-class and international cricket. I’m thankful that I’ve enjoyed this game for so long.
Bracewell’s record in first class
Bracewell retires as one of the few modern all-rounders in New Zealand cricket to have achieved the elite first-class double of 4,000 runs and 400 career wickets. Of these, 3,029 runs and 258 wickets were for Central, which is the best all-round record in the team’s history. In addition to domestic cricket for Central Districts, Bracewell has also played for Essex and Northamptonshire in English county cricket.
He has also played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in IPL 2012, Joburg Super Kings in SA20 2024 and Central Stags in the Global Super League earlier this year.
