Ajit Agarkar will select the team for India for the last time against New Zealand, this veteran will be the new selector of India in July.
Indian team’s head coach Ajit Agarkar took charge of Team India in July 2023. Ajit Agarkar was made the chief selector of the Indian team in place of Chetan Sharma. After the sting operation on Chetan Sharma, he was removed from the post of coach. Chetan Sharma resigned from his post in February 2023.
After this, this post was vacant and after IPL, Ajit Agarkar was made the chief selector of Team India in July 2023, but now his tenure is about to end. BCCI can now make a former Indian player the head selector.
India has so far won 2 ICC trophies during Ajit Agarkar’s tenure.
Since Ajit Agarkar became the chief selector of Team India in July 2023, the Indian team has won 2 ICC trophies, during which the Indian team first won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, while after this BCCI won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title during his tenure.
Ajit Agarkar had selected the Indian team for both these tournaments, that is why his tenure was extended till June 2026. Ajit Agarkar’s tenure was ending in June 2025, but his tenure was extended keeping in mind the T20 World Cup 2026. However, after the shameful defeat during his tenure in Test, it is now difficult to extend his tenure.
RP Singh can become the new head selector
RP Singh has recently been made the selector of the Indian team. Former Indian team fast bowler RP Singh has been made the assistant to Ajit Agarkar, but if reports are to be believed, he can be made the next chief selector after Ajit Agarkar, because at present BCCI has entrusted many important responsibilities to RP Singh.
This includes the responsibility of returning Mohammed Shami and Ishan Kishan to Team India and making Rohit Sharma the captain again. BCCI is keeping RP Singh ahead in all matters and his views are being given more priority than Ajit Agarkar, in such a situation it is believed that RP Singh can become the new chief selector of India in place of Ajit Agarkar.
