Shiv Sena-BJP seat sharing talks in final stage

Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant has given important information regarding BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) elections. They said that Shiv Sena Seat sharing talks between BJP and BJP are in the final stages for the upcoming BMC elections and it is certain that the ruling parties will contest the elections as BMC MahaYuti Alliance. Samant expressed confidence that this time also Mahayuti will come to power.

Speaking to the media, Samant said, “The discussion on seat sharing is in the final stages. The final decision on who will get how many seats is yet to be taken. We are contesting elections on all 227 wards as a grand alliance.” Taking a dig at Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), he said that some parties are forming alliances only to save their existence.

Uday Samant also said that Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and BJP are keen on an alliance, but both the parties have not yet announced the final seat sharing formula and list of candidates. There are total 227 wards in BMC. According to sources, there is still a standoff between the two parties over some wards and talks are going on in Mira-Bhayander, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli civic bodies. Elections to 29 municipal bodies in Maharashtra will be held on January 15, while the last date for filing nominations is December 30.

Sharad and Ajit Pawar formed an alliance

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has announced an alliance between his led NCP and uncle Sharad Pawar-led NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) for the Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal elections. Ajit Pawar said that the entire family has united. Talks are also going on between the two parties regarding an alliance for the Pune Municipal Corporation elections.

Congress and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi

In the opposition camp, Congress and Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi have announced an alliance for the BMC elections. According to sources, VBA will contest on 62 out of 227 seats, while Congress will field its candidates on more than 150 seats. Some seats will be allotted to Rashtriya Samaj Party and RPI (Gavai). This alliance is being considered strategically important for the opposition this time.

Experts believe that this contest between Mahayuti and the opposition alliance will be very competitive, because the equation of total 227 wards in BMC will prove to be decisive. Mahayuti’s victory in the last elections had given a strategic edge to the ruling party, but this time the new situation of the alliance in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune Municipal Corporation has changed the political equations.

political analyst’s opinion

Political analysts say that the strength of Mahayuti alliance in BMC elections is that both Shiv Sena and BJP have good presence in major cities. At the same time, the aim of the opposition alliance Congress and VBA is to make the situation of Mahayuti challenging by dividing the votes. Only after the final decision on seat sharing will it be clear how many seats the Grand Alliance will be able to secure out of 227 seats and how many seats the opposition alliance can claim to win.
