Stock Market Today: Trading started with slight gains, slow rise in Sensex-Nifty

Mumbai. Sensex and Nifty started trading with modest gains on Monday, however, they gained momentum later due to strong trend in Asian markets and continuous buying by domestic institutional investors. BSE Sensex was up 22.24 points at 85,063.69 in early trade and NSE Nifty was up marginally by 16 points at 26,058.30.

There was a rise in prices after the initial deals and BSE Sensex rose 105.17 points to 85,140.33 points while Nifty started trading with a gain of 35 points at 26,080.45 points. Among the 30 companies included in the Sensex, shares of Tata Steel, Eternal, Bharat Electronics, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Trent and Maruti gained the most. Whereas shares of Adani Ports, Power Grid, Bajaj Finserv and Axis Bank remained in loss.

In Asian markets, South Korea’s Kospi, China’s SSE Composite and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng remained in the positive zone, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 remained in the loss. US markets closed flat on Friday. International standard Brent crude stood at $ 61.27 per barrel with a gain of 1.04 percent.

According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were sellers on Friday and sold shares worth a net Rs 317.56 crore. On the other hand, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 1,772.56 crore.
