Trump and Zelensky almost agree on Ukraine peace plan

Florida (America), December 29: US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said in a joint statement on Sunday that both of us are almost in agreement on the Ukraine peace plan. Both the leaders issued this statement in a press conference after the important meeting regarding the peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia at Mar-a-Lago here. They discussed the Ukraine-Russia war and a possible peace deal. According to CBS News report, Trump said, “This meeting was fantastic. I also spoke on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin for more than two hours. Now it looks like we are very close on a peace plan. Putin and I also just spoke to European leaders. We have made a lot of progress on ending the Ukraine-Russia war. This war is the deadliest since World War II.” Zelensky had talked to US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner on this issue a few days ago. It is important here that the Kremlin has not yet reviewed the draft of Trump’s 20-point plan. Moscow has not yet shown any signs of showing any leniency on its regional demands. Zelensky did say on Sunday that he and Trump agreed 90 percent on the plan. Trump and Zelensky described regional issues such as Donbass as “very difficult questions.” Zelensky urged countries well-wishing Ukraine to continue supporting the peace plan despite Russia’s attack on Kiev on Saturday. Zelensky said at a joint press conference that President Trump will host European leaders in Washington in January, CBS News reported. He will also be present in this meeting. Trump said he and Zelensky also spoke with the leaders of France, Finland, Poland, Norway, Italy, the UK and Germany, as well as the leaders of NATO and the European Commission. Zelensky stressed the importance of security guarantees for Ukraine during this period. On the question of the possible time frame for ending the war, Trump said, “It may take a few weeks.” During the nearly two and a half hour conversation between Trump and Zelensky in the dining room of Mar-a-Lago, Witkoff and Kushner, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and War Secretary Pete Hegseth were present.
