Delhi shrouded in dense fog as air quality stays ‘very poor’

New Delhi: Dense fog continued to blanket the national capital as the air quality remained in the ‘very poor’ range on Tuesday. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 385 at 6 am.

A day earlier, the capital’s 24-hour average AQI stood at 401, placing it in the ‘severe’ category.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), overall visibility in Delhi was reduced to around 350 metres at 6:30 am.

The IMD had issued a fog advisory for the night of December 29 and the morning of December 30, warning of dense to very dense fog conditions across Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and parts of the Northeast, East and North India.

In view of the prevailing conditions, the weather agency also sounded a red alert for dense fog on Tuesday.

The Delhi Airport tweeted, “Passenger advisory Fog update: Flight operations are running smoothly as visibility at the airport has improved. Please be assured that our on-ground officials are available across terminals to assist passengers and provide necessary support. For the latest flight schedules, please contact your respective airline.”
