The police has achieved a major success in the case of theft worth crores of rupees in the famous Thave Durga temple located in Gopalganj district of Bihar. During the investigation of this high-profile case, the police came across a shocking turn which surprised the officers as well as the general public. The police investigation is no longer limited only to the items stolen from the temple, but links to inter-state gangs and thefts in other temples also seem to be linked to it. In this case, the police took prompt action and not only recovered the priceless idols, but also detained many accused.
Gopalganj Police’s SIT dug continuously for 24 hours and recovered precious Ashtadhatu idols of Lord Ram and Mata Sita from under the ground.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Gopalganj Police has discovered the treasure hidden under the ground under a special operation. The police team carried out a continuous excavation operation for 24 hours, as a result of which two extremely valuable Ashtadhatu idols of Lord Ram and Mata Sita were recovered from the womb of the ground. This recovery is so important that the police have considered it a major success. After finding the idols, the police have intensified their raids so that other members of the gang and the remaining items can be reached.
Stolen goods were hidden under bricks and stones in the house of the accused with the help of metal detector in Town Police Station area.
The police took this major action in Arar locality of Town police station area, where the main accused in this case, Sharif Alam, lives. The police had received concrete information that the stolen goods had been hidden inside the house by burying them in the ground. After this, the police cordoned off the entire area and conducted a large-scale search operation. The item was hidden so neatly that the police had to take the help of a metal detector to find it. When the ground was dug based on the sound of ‘beep’ received from the metal detector, apart from the idols, other stolen items were also found there. Soap, sewing machine, shoes, aluminum electrical wires and some other jewelery were also recovered during the excavation. According to the police, the recovered idols of Ram and Sita were stolen from a temple in Chhapra and were buried under bricks and stones to destroy the evidence.
In this theft case, four women of the same family, including the wife, mother and sisters of the main accused Sharif Alam, were arrested.
In this case, the police have adopted a tough stance and have also tightened the noose on the family of the main accused. Police have arrested four women from the house of accused Sharif Alam. The women arrested include the accused’s wife Shabba Khatoon, mother Madina Khatoon and sisters Tabu and Sabbu. During the interrogation conducted by the police, many important information has been received from these women, which can prove helpful in further investigation. After medical checkup of all the accused, the process of presenting them in the court has been completed.

Even though the police have found other idols, the search for the main jewelery stolen from the Thawe Durga temple is still on. Superintendent of Police Awadhesh Dixit has clarified that the investigation is not over yet. The gold crown, necklace and umbrella of Goddess Durga and many other precious ornaments have not been recovered yet. Police teams are continuously conducting raids and it is expected that soon the main items of the temple will also be recovered.
