UP’s boom under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath: Achievements from economy to infra, but challenges remain

Lucknow. The year 2025 was important for Uttar Pradesh in many ways. The Yogi Adityanath government termed it the ‘Golden Year of Development’, while for the common people, this year became a symbol of challenges and struggles along with achievements. While the government claimed major achievements on many fronts, from economy to law and order, infrastructure to education and health, some incidents and incomplete plans also raised questions. Economy: Claim of record growth

Yogi government claimed to touch new heights of economy in 2025. According to government data, the state’s GSDP increased from Rs 27.51 lakh crore to the target of Rs 32 lakh crore. The special thing is that this achievement was achieved without any new tax. 683 million US dollars came into the state as foreign direct investment.

The government says that Uttar Pradesh is now standing on the threshold of becoming the third largest economy of the country. The state also made a record in ethanol production. 141.8 crore liters of ethanol was produced in the year. More than two crore new jobs were claimed to be created in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. According to the government, the unemployment rate decreased from 19 percent to 2.4 percent, although the opposition continued to question these figures.

Budget and Infrastructure:

New record of expenditure: Uttar Pradesh’s budget in the year 2025-26 was Rs 8 lakh crore, which is the largest budget in the history of the state. In this, Rs 2.25 lakh crore was earmarked for infrastructure development. The work of laying six new expressways, dozens of flyovers, expansion of airports and a network of rural roads was accelerated. Due to increase in electricity production, it was also claimed that the state would become a power surplus state. Law and order and police reforms Yogi government described law and order as its biggest achievement. 62 thousand soldiers were recruited in the year 2025.

The government claims that the crime rate in the state was below the national average. Strict action against mafia, land mafia and organized criminals continued.

New schemes were implemented for the safety of women and emphasis was laid on modernization of the police. Education and Health: A year of expansion. This year, taking a big step in the education sector, recruitment of more than one lakh teachers was completed. These include 70 thousand primary and more than 30 thousand secondary teachers. In the health sector, five new government medical colleges were started in Amethi, Bulandshahr, Lalitpur, Pilibhit and Auraiya. With this the number of medical colleges in the state increased to more than 75. More than six crore golden cards were made under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

Tourism, Faith and Digital The organization of UP Mahakumbh 2025 was a big event for the government. The construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya was claimed to be completed, while work on Kashi Vishwanath Corridor Phase-2 and Mathura-Vrindavan Corridor progressed. 12 new tourism circuits were developed in Bundelkhand and Purvanchal. Steps were also taken towards Digital UP. Startup UP reached the third position in the country and more than 25 thousand new startups were registered. With the implementation of DigiLocker and e-office, paper work in government work was reduced by 80 percent.

Questions kept being raised throughout the year. Amidst the achievements, the government also had to face many controversies and criticisms in 2025. After the deaths in the stampede during Mahakumbh, questions were raised on administrative preparations. Due to slow pace of Ganga Expressway, there was doubt about its completion on time. The poisonous cough syrup scandal put the drug control system in the dock. There were allegations of invasion and misuse of privacy regarding CCTV installed on some expressways. Serious allegations of pressurizing voters against BLOs and government employees also came to light.

Moving towards 2026, the Uttar Pradesh government claims that rapid steps are being taken towards making Uttar Pradesh a 1 trillion dollar economy by 2026-27. Work is going on on the plan to make big cities of the state including Lucknow into world class cities. The year 2025 was a year of both achievements and challenges for Uttar Pradesh. The pace of development raised new hopes, but some incidents also reminded that transparency, accountability and public concerns are still to be strengthened.
