Flight operations badly affected due to dense fog, advisory issued for passengers

New Delhi, 29 December. Flight operations were severely affected due to dense fog in many parts of the country on Monday. Visibility at Delhi airport reduced to around 125 metres, which significantly affected flight activities. Meanwhile, passengers have also faced problems. Due to dense fog on Monday morning, an Air India Express flight from Goa to Delhi could not land in the national capital. Due to similar conditions, the aircraft was also unable to land in Jaipur and was eventually diverted to Ahmedabad, where it landed safely.

Delhi Airport said that due to dense fog, flight operations are currently being conducted in CAT-3 conditions, due to which flights may be delayed or cancelled. “Our ground teams are present on the spot and are providing all possible assistance to passengers to provide them with a better travel experience,” the airport authority wrote on social media platform X. The airport authority also advised passengers to stay updated by checking the status of their flights with the respective airlines.

At the same time, due to poor visibility, air traffic congestion and continuous delays, many flights coming to Delhi were diverted, causing further inconvenience to the passengers. Airline companies have also issued advisories for passengers. IndiGo wrote in the ‘

Indigo advised passengers to check their flight status before leaving home. “Fog can also affect road traffic, so it may be convenient to carry a little extra time to make your journey more comfortable. If there is any change in your flight, timely information will be shared through your registered contact details and our digital channels,” the airline company wrote in the post.

SpiceJet issued its last update around midnight, informing passengers about the disruptions in Kolkata. “All incoming and outgoing flights may be affected due to inclement weather (low visibility) at Kolkata (CCU). Passengers are requested to keep checking their flight status,” the airline said in a statement. Air India also cautioned passengers that routes in northern India, including Delhi, may be affected by low visibility due to dense fog. Airports Authority of India (AAI) shared helpline numbers of airlines to assist passengers.

“Due to fog, visibility is low at select airports in North India, which may impact flight schedules. Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines through official communication channels for flight updates and plan their journeys by allowing extra time for arrival at the airport and check-in procedures,” AAI said in a statement. It further said, “AAI has taken steps for the convenience of passengers and has deployed support teams to assist passengers at the affected airports. We are committed to ensuring passenger safety, convenience and smooth operation of airports even in adverse weather conditions.”
