Ashwin eyes 2025 cricket conference, took names of two players and said something special on Kohli-Rohit
New Delhi . The year 2025 was a mixed one for India. Team India started this year by winning the Champions Trophy, while India also captured the Asia Cup. Team India did not lose any series in T20 this year, but their performance in Tests was disappointing. They faced a 0-2 defeat at home against South Africa. However, India was successful in drawing the series 2-2 in England. Amidst this excellent year for India, former spinner R Ashwin has named two players who have wowed the gathering with their brilliant performance in 2025. During this, he also talked about senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Ravichandran Ashwin has praised mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty and called him the best bowler of India this year. He said that Varun is a huge MVP, whose impact has been visible every time the team has needed him. Ashwin said on his YouTube channel ‘Aish Ki Baat’, “I would pick Varun Chakravarthy as India’s bowler of the year. He was a huge MVP. Whenever the team used him, he showed his
Varun has taken 10 wickets in four ODIs and 36 wickets in 20 T20Is, and has emerged as one of India’s most reliable wicket-takers in white-ball cricket.
Ashwin also praised Abhishek Sharma and described the left-handed opener as the X-factor of India’s next generation. “It’s not just the coming of Abhishek Sharma, it’s probably the coming of India’s next generation X-factor player. If I had to name one player who has performed best for India in 2025, it would be him because he has batted very well,” Ashwin said.
Abhishek has had a stellar 2025 in T20Is, scoring 859 runs in 21 matches at an average of 42.95 and an impressive strike rate of 193.46, including one century and five half-centuries.
There was a time in 2025 when the sword was hanging on the careers of senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, but by the end of the year, both the players showed that they still have a lot of cricket left in them. Rohit-Kohli have retired from Test and T20, both of them now dream of playing World Cup 2027.
Ashwin said, “Both Rohit and Virat have the fire to win the 50-over World Cup and they are trying their best to do so. It is important that we enjoy every match of theirs. In many ways, they have redefined these years. It has not been an easy year in terms of Test cricket because both of them had retired and there was a lot of talk about their chances, but they came back and played very well in the ODI series. Virat is looking in tremendous form and this is what Indian cricket is all about. Very good for.”
