Shan Masood’s blast: Fastest double century in first-class cricket

Pakistan Test captain **Shan Masood** performed brilliantly in the President’s Trophy (Departmental First-Class Tournament) on December 29-30, 2025. He scored **212 not out** off 185 balls for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) against State Bank of Pakistan at the State Bank Stadium, Karachi.

His explosive innings included **the fastest double century by a Pakistani batsman in first-class history**, as he scored 200 runs in just **177 balls**. He broke **Inzamam-ul-Haq**’s 33-year-old national record of 188 balls, which he had set in a 1992 tour match.

Masood also surpassed **Virender Sehwag**’s record of 182 balls to score the fastest double century on Pakistani soil (which he achieved during India’s 2006 Lahore Test). This record of Sehwag remained intact for almost 20 years.

After opener Azan Awais was out for 53, Masood along with Ali Zaryab (192 runs from 237 balls) put together a mammoth second-wicket partnership of 390 runs**, one of the biggest partnerships in Pakistan’s domestic first-class history. SNGPL finished the day’s play at a strong score of **460/2** in 82.1 overs.

**Masood’s 2025 form**
This was his second double century this year, before which he had scored 250 runs for Karachi Blues. In 25 first-class innings in 2025, he scored **1,564 runs** at an average of **71.09**, including five centuries. At international level, he scored **397 runs** in 10 Test innings (average 39.70), which included one century and three half-centuries.

His aggressive but controlled batting—characterized by excellent footwork, the ability to exploit gaps and score runs quickly—highlighted his mastery of the red-ball game amid a hectic international schedule. **conclusion**
Masood’s record-breaking innings further cemented his status as Pakistan’s premier Test opener and an influential player in domestic cricket, combining modern aggression with classical technique.
