‘Why ‘bold’ if a woman is seen with a younger actor?’, Konkana Sensharma’s frank statement on age difference
Konkona Sensharma has long made her mark as a sensitive and trustworthy actress in Hindi cinema. Along with acting, he has also left his own mark in direction. This year she was seen in the film ‘Metro… In Dino’, where she was seen paired with Pankaj Tripathi. There is a twist in the story of her character in the film, where she is seen in a romantic relationship with actor Rohan Gurbaxani, who is younger than her. Due to this, in recent times the debate regarding age difference and relationships has once again come into discussion.
Some time ago, an interesting question was asked to Salman Khan and Aamir Khan in Kajol and Twinkle Khanna’s chat show. The question was that when older male actors romance younger actresses, it is called ‘cinematic magic’, but when a female actor plays an on-screen relationship with a younger man, why is it called ‘bold’? Recently, the same discussion intensified after Ranveer Singh and 20-year-old Sara Arjun were cast in the film ‘Dhurandhar’. Konkana Sensharma has openly expressed her opinion on this entire issue.
Konkana’s clear view
Konkana believes that people may have different opinions regarding such relationships. He says, "It completely depends on the thinking of the audience. Some may find this courageous, others absolutely normal. For me, this is not a special or surprising thing, because couples of different ages are seen in real life also. We see this even among famous people and slowly it is becoming normal. In such a situation, I do not understand the need to discuss this topic again and again."
The actress believes that it is wrong to mold women into any specific mould. She says, "There is no one way to be a woman. Different women play different roles and live life differently. Characters like Durga show how layered a woman can be. Only when we adopt this perspective, we are able to understand the depth of human relationships and emotions."
Age difference in films is not just ‘boldness’
Konkana also made it clear that the age difference in her films is not shown for any sensation, but as per the need of the story. According to him, "The age difference in both my films had a different purpose. Just calling it ‘bold’ sounds boring to me. In Metro…In Dino, it was shown in a light-hearted and humorous manner, which brings out the confusion of Pankaj Tripathi’s character. At the same time, it is not considered a big deal for Pankaj to meet another young woman, then why is he not called bold?"
Referring to the film ‘Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare’, Konkana said that her character there was going through a difficult married life. Her relationship with the younger man in that story was actually part of the process of self-identification and understanding herself. According to him, it is not right to look at such relationships from only one perspective.
